Swimmers can argue for a long long time about whether or not it’s boring to swim for a long long time. For the record, Geezer votes for NOT. Carmen Sofia Grant, writing for Suite 101, offers five ways stave off boredom during a long swim.
1. Find a swimmer who’s a little faster than you, and pretend to race against her.
2. Race yourself, by timing each swim and trying to beat your own time.
3. Spend a few bucks for a waterproof MP3 player.
4. Spend a few more bucks and get a pace timer, which can help you speed up or slow your stroke.
5. Analyze your swim. Even while swimming, think about mental and physical shortcomings that can be improved upon.
