Household Cleaning Products May Boost Breast Cancer Risk

So much for cleanliness's proximity to godliness. Web MD reports that researchers at the Silent Spring Institute in Newton, Massachusetts have found a possible link between household cleaning products, and specifically, air fresheners, and the risk of breast cancer. The researchers conducted telephone interviews with 787 women who had been diagnosed
with breast cancer and 721 women who did not have breast cancer, asking how often the women used various household cleaning products. The researchers report that, while it was hard to say exactly how much exposure to the products may raise risk of breast cancer, women who used the most cleaning products had about
twice the risk as those in the group that used the least. Web MD reports that women who had used solid air fresheners seven
or more times a year had twice the risk of breast cancer as those who
never used it.

  1. “May” boost cancer? A “possible” link? Are you kidding?
People, we all want to live clean, or as clean as possible, but realize what we have been dupped into thinking here. We have been taught, or talked into believing and therefore convinced that in order to clean properly, it must be done with harsh and poisonous chemicals. And as if being clean (with no odor) wasn’t good enough, clean must now have a smell, especially if it’s not really clean, or you desire your home to smell something like a flower garden, or some other pleasently aromatic substance of nature. What do you expect? Hasn’t anyone ever read the labels of these products? Ever looked up those chemical ingredients to see what they are about? Am I alone here thinking that the alarming rate of cancer increase has paralleled the alarming increase of chemicals used in daily life, from our food supply to cleaning supplies, to even the substances we put on our bodies to make them smell, or not. If only someone would have asked, I could have saved a bundle on this and simular studies. Wake up people! There are alternatives to these toxic chemicals. And who cares if it doesn’t smell? Look at the risk your taking. And FYI, “clean” doesn’t have a smell, and you don’t need dangerous chemicals to achieve it.

  2. And that’s why we go to an old company called Shaklee that’s been selling green cleaning products for 50 years for our cleaning products.

non-toxic, biodegradeable,eco-friendly and yes, they actually work.

  3. My soon to be wife developed allergies as she got a little older. We found too many chemicals in her skin care products we did not like. So we did some research and developed our own skin oil that helps repair, nourish and moisturize dry damaged skin. It is a blend of all natural and essential oils. We have had so much success locally with friends and family, we began to sell it online. It is called E ESSENTIAL 24 BEST SKIN OIL.

  4. Chemist Dave

More BS. No where does it say, “…has been found to cause cancer.” On the other side of the scale, people who use chemicals today when compared to those who didn’t 100 years ago, live 30% long. Now that’s a fact. Conclusion: Don’t use chemicals and die sooner.

EXACTLY!!!!!! Also of interest, the EDC’s (endocrine disrupting chemicals). I believe these may be found in fatty foods and can-
ned good as well as certain large fish.
Live and learn. What we don’t know may kill us.

  6. Dave, the real fact is that 100 years ago and back, before the chemical age, there was little to no cancer present. Today, because of the overuse, misuse, and certainly the unneccesary use of chemicals the bodies reaction is to deveolope cellular annomalies which is cancer. All chemicals that I know of are either suspected of causing, or known to cause cancer, as the studies that have been done confirm. But the studies that are done to create the chemicals far out number the ones that conclude their deadly effects in our bodies. The REAL CONCLUSION, stay away from any kind of chemicals, as much as possible, because they Will make you sick and unhealthy, which will lead to the modern age notion that some chemist will then have to come up with some other chemical to what Dave, make you live longer? LOL
