Good Cholesterol May Stave Off Alzheimer’s

It's called good cholesterol because it's good for your heart, but high-density lipoprotein (HDL) now appears to be good for the brain as well. HealthDay reports on research conducted at Columbia University's Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease that found that that people with low levels of good cholesterol had a 60 percent greater risk of developing Alzheimer's disease after the age of 65 than those who had high levels of HDL. How to get more good cholesterol? The researchers recommend eating a healthy diet, getting exercise, losing weight as recommended, and quitting smoking.
