Can Moderate Drinking Keep Women Slim?

Gentle readers learned recently that regular sex can cut man's risk of an unfortunate heart event in half. Now comes word that women who drink moderate amounts of alcohol don't gain as much weight in midlife as those who abstain. One can only wonder what good news science will reveal next.  The study, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, examined health and lifestyle information from 19,220 women, all originally of healthy weight, over an average of 13 years. The Los Angeles Times reports that, after
doing their best to adjust for other factors that influence weight, the
researchers found that compared with women who did not drink, women who had a drink or two were
30 percent less likely to be overweight or obese at the end of the study
period.
