Can “Age-Management” Make Men Younger? Or Just Poorer?

Is age-management, a pretty word for treatment that can include testosterone replacement and injections of human chorionic gondatropin, or H.C.G., a hormone distilled from the urine of pregnant women, for real? Or does the age-management company Cenegenics just have a PR guy who didn't know when to stop the testosterone treatments? The Las Vegas-based company appears in two of the country's best-read newspapers, and in both cases its style of treatment meets serious skepticism from medical establishment experts. In a long feature, Vigor Quest, in the New York Times Sunday magazine, Cenegenics manages the aging of a 51-year-old man who is eager to postpone what some experts call male menopause, (and what other experts call a fictional condition). In the Los Angeles Times, Cenegenics is the age manager of choice of a 71-year-old physician aptly named Jeffry Life. According to the L.A. Times, Cenegenics therapy includes exercise, diet and treatment with testosterone and human growth hormone. According to Dr. Robert Baratz,
former president of the National Council Against Health Fraud and an
assistant clinical professor at Boston University School of Medicine, who is quoted in the L.A. Times, programs like Cenegenics' are completely illogical."They defy what we know about science and biology," says Baratz." They prey upon
people's desires to wind back the clock, as if such a thing were
possible. But there is no mechanism for doing that in nature."

Confused? Maybe it's male menopause. Maybe not.Lots to read here, in the New York Times, and the L.A. Times.

  1. I haven’t laughed so hard or so long in quite a while. In all cultures, men can be found who fear aging and eventual death and who do outlandish things (i.e., injest rhino horn, gorilla hands, uncontrolled herbal products, etc.) in a vain attempt to stay young and virile but the USA and the West, with its supposedly scientific voodoo that empties the pockets of those who should know better beats all others!
Perhaps it would be better if we all learned to accept that which is for that which it is, gracefully harmonized with the natural processes, respected the aging process and accepted our own true nature.

  2. I am not a medical doctor, but at 73 I do have a bit of experience and I believe that men just psyche themselves into impotence in most cases.
My machinery still works exceptionally well, but my interest in other things has increased and if I spend too much time with sex, I don’t have time for the other things!
Also, I am not incredibly rich so it is difficult to get the cute and sexy young ladies interested and to be very frank, I don’t see many women in my age group that appear very sexy! A man does need something to stimulate him and a dowdy, fat/skinny old hag just does not do the trick!
Sorry, ladies, another quirk of older men … we tell it like it is!

Medical doctors like the above-cited “researcher’ are blind to anything out of their scope. Medical doctors can dispense drugs and cut on bodies. The fact is, hormone replacement therapy makes complete scientific sense. If a young man of twenty has low testosterone levels hormone replacement therapy can get his levels back into normal ranges. If a man of forty has low testosterone levels he is told by most medical doctors that he is just old. Our glands do not produce as they did when we are young. Why not maintain proper levels through replacement therapy? I am fifty-six and most people guess my age around forty. I understand that heredity plays a role but we cannot discount proper diet, strenuous exercise, and proper hormone levels achieved by supplementation. Initials after one’s name do not make one smarter…or right.

  5. As a society if we offered the elderly some respect and consideration, we would not find getting old so daunting and over whelming. Aging is a natural process and we should all age with dignity and a true quality of life.
