WHO Study Says Americans Should Lose 500 Calories a Day

The good news, and in this case it is not all that good, is that considering how much food Americans eat, they should be even fatter than they are. That bad news is every other conclusion of a new study conducted by the World Health Organization and researchers at Deakin University in Australia. Researchers there tested 1,399 adults and 963 children to determine how many calories
their bodies burn in normal everyday life. They then calculated how
much adults needed to ea to maintain a stable weight and how
much children needed to eat in order to maintain a normal growth curve. Next, they looked how much Americans were actually eating, over the 30 years from the 1970s to today, and calculated out how much weight they should have gained in that time period. In children, the researchers found, the predicted and actual
weight increase matched exactly. But with adults, the prediction put the expected weight gain at 10.8 kilograms, while adult Americans gained only 8.6 kilograms.Lead researcher Boyd Swinburn believes that there may
have been increases in physical activity over the 30 years that have
blunted what would otherwise have been a higher weight gain.
Swinburn says that to return to the average weights of the 1970s, we would need to reverse the increased food intake of about 350 calories a day for children (about one can of fizzy drink and a small portion of French fries) and 500 calories a day for adults (about one large
hamburger. Or, he says, we could increase physical activity by about 150 minutes a day of extra walking for children and 110 minutes for adults.

  2. Anyone think about DEMANDING that the FOOD Companies remove High Fructose Corn Syrup from the basic FOOD CHAIN since it’s been LINKED to OBESITY from the start of it’s adoption as a CHEAP sweetener?
    It’s been CLEARLY linked to heart disease, diabetes, arterial sclerosis and a host of other ‘Rich Mans’ diseases!
    Hmmmm…. while you are at it, perhaps one should ALSO think about demanding that Monsanto stop poisoning the food supply with it’s genetically modified crops!

    I’d like to see the correlation of CANCER with the use of it’s genetically modified crops like the ones that are genetically ‘ROUND UP’ Resistant …. which is NOT bio-degradable by the way. You can have a whole field with NO weeds …. just soybeans! Cause the SPRAY THE WHOLE FEED WITH WEED KILLER … and THAT SOYBEAN PLANT survives while everything ELSE dies!
    Oh … and YOU, and ANIMALS that YOU eat … also EAT those soybeans!

This matter is sooo sad, but we Americans….as a whole…obviously don’t have the willpower to ignore the marketing aimed at us and we just continue to eat white flour, white pasta, white potatoes, etc., and wash it all down with liquid candy disguised as energy drinks. The terrorists can rest and save their energy. We are quite capable of killing ourselves with our diet.
