Geezer has seen many people ride bikes in snow, but the riders observed were either 1. college students–i.e. nuts, or 2. truly desperate to get from point A to point B, or 3. all of the above. These days, however, a Google search turns up several web pages that endeavor to describe snow biking an enjoyable winter activity. There is even, it turns out, a major snow biking endurance event: the human-powered Itidarod. The most believable story comes from National Public Radio, and includes Ten Tips for Biking in Snow. Geezer advises readers to pay close attention to tip number 10: “Stay away from dogs.”

My neighbor owns a bike shop, so by definition, he’s a biking fanatic. I saw him hop his bike yesterday and take off for a ride. I have a bike, but it never sees the light of day again until maybe April.
