The Weighty Price of Obesity: $344 Billion Over Ten Years

How fast are we getting fatter? So fast, according to a recent report from the United Health Foundation, the American Public Health Association and the Partnership for Prevention, that If current trends continue  this country will have more
than 100 million obese adults by 2018, and will pay $343 billion on
health cares costs attributable to that obesity related problems. The study, conducted by Kenneth Thorpe, executive director of the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease, found that obesity in the United States is growing faster than any public health threat our nation has faced. It predicts that if we keep getting fatter at current rates, in 2018 the health care costs of obesity will rise to $1,425 per person, from $361 per person today.

  1. Well then it’s time to cut out health care to those who can’t maintain a decent weight!

  2. No-one cares about us skinny folks…I’m 6 feet tall and can’t hold on to 150 pounds, even eating 4000 calories plus a day…of course, I run and bike, but it’s frustrating to be eating, lifting weights regularly, and still be below the Body Mass Index recommended weight

  3. Is this Nazi Germany? Obese people aren’t the only ones who get sick. What the f**k is wrong with you Nazis?

  4. Yeah, what Robert said! And insurance companies, stop discriminating against us smokers, too!

  5. Too true. I don’t think anyone should be penalized for being overweight or underweight. How do you feel about people who smoke, though? They pay higher life insurance rates…but sometimes taking care of yourself doesn’t mean a hill of beans. I was diagnosed with colon cancer right after placing second in my age group at the Nike SF marathon. Everyone needs health care.

  6. Speeking for the fat people, why should we pay more when if you are a illeagal citizen you get it for free?
Maybe if all the abuse was stopped there would be enough money.

  7. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change…..The courage to change the things that I can,…and the wisdom to know the difference. In other words, the power is in your hands to change any bad habits that you may have, whether it be smoking, eating too much, drinking, or what have you. The choice is yours. There are no excuses for bad habits!!
