Soybeans May Take the Edge off Menopause

GMO_soybeans The good news for women readers (and concerned male friends), is that researchers at the National Chiayi University, Taiwan, have found that an ingredient found in soy –soy aglycons of isoflavone (SAI)– has oestrogenic properties that could alleviate some of the unpleasantness of menopause. The research, published in Nutrition and Metabolism, also suggests that SAI lowers levels of harmful LDL cholesterol and increases beneficial HDL cholesterol, and therefor may help prevent coronary heart disease.
The bad news is that all of the research so far was conducted on rats, not humans. Science Daily reports that scientists are hopeful that the findings also apply to women.
