Two new studies offer powerful evidence that fructose, the sweetener used in most soft drinks, sets our blood pressure on a skyward path.HealthDay reports that one study, conducted at Mateo Orfila Hospital in Minorca, Spain, looked at 74 men, average age
51, who ate a diet that included 200 grams of fructose a day,
far more than the average U.S. consumption of 50 to 70 grams. After two weeks, men on the high-fructose diet had an average increase of six points in systolic blood
pressure and
three points in diastolic blood pressure.
The journal cites a second study of mice who slept during the day and had either unrestricted access
to fructose-enriched water or access restricted to either daytime or
nighttime hours. The mice that consumed fructose continuously or at night had an
increase in blood pressure, with a spike at night, when they were
awake.Questions?
As I read your post I am watching a doc film called “Sweet Misery,” which looks at aspartame, an artificial sweetener that is found in diet sodas as well as in Equal and Nutrasweet. This stuff is horrible! It has been shown to cause serious neurological problems, including brain tumors. Down with diet soda!!
Well lets extrapolate that. That means if 200 grams raises our blood pressure 6 points and 3 points respectively then 50 grams, the ave. American diet raises my blood pressure 1.5 pts and .9pts. correspondingly. Since my blood pressure hovers around 72/118 give me back my Coke I just threw away.
They might as well use regular cane sugar. Is this stuff in all drinks or just diet?
Fructose can be found in many prepared foods from soda to summer sausage. It is like a disease from hell. Learn to read product labels. Sometimes they put fructose in some juice drinks. Just when you think you are getting healthy fruit juice you may be killing yourself.
