Men’s Journal Puts Superjuices To The Test

Is Geezer the only person who is fatigued, bewildered and annoyed by hailstorm of hype about the near magical powers of fruit juices? Geezer thinks he is not, and he is extremely grateful to editors at Men’s Journal, who sent seven popular juices off to a lab, asking for measurements of phenolic acids, said to reduce the likelihood of cancer, anthocyanins, alleged to slow aging, vitamin C, said to aid in healing wounds, and beta-carotene, believed to
boost the immune system. The magazine looked at Bolthouse Farms Purple Carrot juice, Vemma, Tropicana Orange juice, Welch’s, AgroLabs Superberry Upgrade, and Naked Pomegranate Blueberry juice422px-Orange_juice_1

And the winner is…hard to say. Different juices, predictably, offered different benefits. Vemma was the only juice with beta-carotene, which may bolster the immune system.Welch’s
had the highest level of phenolics. Bolthouse Farms Purple Carrot won the contest for anthocyanins, which may improve brain cell connections, and Tropicana Orange Juice had very high levels of vitamin C.
Throw price into the equation, as Geezer would do, and Welch’s and Tropicana, which both cost 75 cents a serving, rise quickly to the top of the list.
