Is It Cool for (Much) Older Athletes to Take Performance Enhancers?

If a 65-year-old amateur athlete pops some steroids, should we cut him or her some slack? On the other hand, is there a 65-year-old athlete who doesn’t take steroids in one form or another? The New York Times poses these two questions and a few more, in this astonishing story about older, OK elderly, athletes. Meet a 95-year-old who competes in a 400 meter run.

  1. All athletes over the age of 21 should be able to do with their bodies whatever they see fit. If Manny Rameriz goes to the doctor and has low testosterone why cant he get treated? If he had low calcium there would be no problem. If A-Rod goes and gets lasiks eye surgery and comes out with 15-10 vision, nobody says a word, but hasnt he just enhanced his performance? But if he takes HGH to help him get stronger and leaner, that’s a problem. Steroid laws are ridiculous and the amount of misinformation regarding their use is laughable.
