Grapes Lower Blood Pressure and Protect Heart

Yes, the good news is that scientists at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center have found that eating grapes can lower blood pressure. The not quite so good news is that the researchers determined that eating grapes can lower blood pressure in rats. As far as humans go, it could work.Or not.
Science Daily reports Grapes-health rats were fed regular table grapes (in powdered form) as part of either a high- or low-salt diet.
After 18 weeks, the rats that received the grape-enriched diet
powder had lower blood pressure, better heart function, and fewer signs
of heart muscle damage than the rats that ate the same salty diet but
didn’t receive grapes.Wait, there’s more.Rats that received the blood pressure medicine, hydrazine, along
with a salty diet also had lower blood pressure, but their hearts were
not protected from damage as they were in the grape-fed group.
SD reports that the researchers believe that the benefits may be the result of the phytochemicals – naturally
occurring antioxidants – turning on a protective process in the genes
that reduces damage to the heart muscle.

  1. This is remarkable. Two days ago, fructose was linked to heart disease. Today grapes protect the heart. Maybe we could use the sugar in grapes in place of … wait … it’s fructose.
Maybe we could try it on lawyers. There are some things even a rat won’t do. Do lawyers have hearts?
