Getting the Sex Part Back. Or Not.

When sex leaves a marriage, how much can one hope to lure it back? As the New York Times excellent health blogger Tara Parker-Pope reveals, not so much. Parker-Pope puts some direct questions to Denise A. Donnelly, an associate professor of sociology at Georgia State University who has studied sexless marriage, and she gets some equally straightforward answers. Asked if couples in sexless marriages are less happy than couples who still enjoy an active sex life, Donnelly gives us an unsurprising yes, they are less happy. Asked if they are more likely to get divorced, Donnelly offers another affirmative. And most importantly, for some readers, asked if it is possible to rekindle an iced down lust, Donnelly says “It’s very hard.”
