Four Cups of Coffee Can Cut Women’s Heart Risk By 40 Percent

Healthy women who have never had a cigarette habit can cut their risk of stroke by more than 40 percent if they drink four or more cups of coffee a day, according to a researchers at the Universidad Autonoma de
Madrid.  Web MD reports that researchers arrived at that conclusion after analyzing data from 83,076 women who participated in the Nurses'
Health Study, a epidemiological project that collected health information from participants for 24 years. The numbers showed that that healthy women who drank four or more cups of coffee a
day had a 20 percent reduced risk of stroke compared to women who had less than one
cup per month. Drinking two to three cups per day reduced risk by 19 percent. Drinking
a cup five to seven times a week reduFace-in-coffee-beansced risk by 12 percent. Web MD reports that the benefits of coffee are much more significant for nonsmokers. For women
who had never smoked or quit the habit, drinking four cups or more of coffee a
day was associated with a 43 percent reduction in stroke risk. Researchers believe the health benefits, which were not apparent in similar studies of tea and other caffeinated beverages, come from antioxidants in coffee, which improve blood vessel function.
