What To Do in Big Sky: Run, Bike and Paddle 548 Miles, Without Stopping

When Kathy Roche-Wallace, 47, sought a team-mate for her 548-mile hiking, biking and paddling endurance race through southwest Montana known as Primal Quest, she wisely chose someone 20 years younger: her daughter Melissa Hughes. How’d it go? The Wall Street Journal reports that it could have been worse, and was, in fact, much worse, for many of the 223 amateur athletes who chose to put their bodies through hell in a place that looks a lot like heaven. Journal reporter Alexandra Alter, as in "altitude" followed the mother and daughter team for much of the ordeal, and chose to end her piece with a quote from Hughes, as Hughes sits at
the finish line. "I seriously thought, ‘Can I do this? Is it worth it? What the hell am
I doing out here?’ But already in this moment, I’m wanting more. I know
