Two Ways to Stay Young: Eat Less, Drink More (Red Wine)

No, it’s not the first time Geezer has written about the alleged wonders of resveratrol, a compound found in pomegranates, grapes, and most importantly, red wine, but there’s a good reason for an update: new  evidence that resveratrol may protect the heart and slow the effects of aging. The Washington Post reports that tests in mice revealed that low doses of resveratrol mimic the effects
of caloric restriction, diets with 20 percent to 30 percent fewer
calories than a typical diet that have been shown to extend life span. According to the Post, researchers also found that resveratrol affected age-related gene
expression changes in the heart tissue of mice. Readers who wish to go deep can read an abstract of the study here, at PLOSone.
