To Lose Weight and Lower Blood Pressure, Go Nuts

Eating a daily serving of nuts, along with a Mediterranean diet, appears to lower stomach fat and blood pressure, according to a Spanish study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.   Bloomberg reports that the number of study subjects who had metabolic syndrome,
which includes a large waistline, high cholesterol and high
blood pressure, decreased almost 14 percent after a year among
those on the Mediterranean diet — which is rich in fish and
healthy fats — plus mixed nuts. That compares with a 2 percent
drop in those on a low-fat diet. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome decreased 6.7 percent
in the group given the olive oil compared with 13.7 percent
