Geezer, whose swimming speed has regressed over the years from fast to slow to barely moving, is still hopeful that things can improve. And if anyone can help him, he figures, it is Michel Phelps, who yesterday shattered the world record in the 400-meter individual medley. So he promises to memorize this seven-step guide to swimming like a champ that published in Men’s Health and allegedly put together by Phelps and Terry Laughlin, president of the New York-based swimming think tank Total Immersion.
Tip number six should be particularly useful: "Your legs should be taut, scissoring you through the water, while your
feet remain flexible. This will help them snap at the downstroke of
each kick, adding oomph and helping twist your torso along the central
axis. If your feet don’t flex well, buy a set of kicking fins (we like
the Slim Fin, forcefin.com) to add flexibility."
