Strange But True: Fat People Get Less Pleasure From Food Than Others

Two things you probably didn’t know about obese people: 1. They get less pleasure from food than do people who are not obese: 2.  Because they get less pleasure, they want more pleasure, and eat more food.  WebMD reports on the seemingly paradoxical phenomenon, and on the brain imaging research that identified it, conducted at the Oregon Research Institute. Researcher there showed women a picture of a chocolate milkshake and a
picture of a glass of water. The heavier the woman, the more active the
pleasure center in her brain. Then the women actually tasted
a chocolate milkshake or a neutral solution. Heavier women had less
activity in their brains’ pleasure centers.
