Is Geezer the only person wondering why it took so long for "researchers" to figure out that a lousy boss can be bad for your health? If a bad marriage can hike blood pressure, why would a miserable work environment be any different? Now, thanks to a study done at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, we know it’s not. Researchers at the Swedish institute tracked more than 3,100 Swedish men for the better part of a decade, and found that the longer a person works for a lousy boss, the more likely they were to be felled by heart
disease. As the Boston Globe reports, "workers saddled for four years
with managers who were inconsiderate, opaque, uncommunicative, and poor
advocates were about 60 percent more likely to suffer a heart attack or
other life-threatening cardiac condition. By contrast, employees whose
managers exhibited robust leadership skills were roughly 40 percent
less likely to suffer heart emergencies."
