Highpointing: Outdoors Thrills for the OCD Crowd

Why, Geezer must ask, would anyone want to climb the highest elevations in all 50 states? The question gets harder to answer when one considers that the high point of Florida is 345 feet above sea-level. On the other hand, or perhaps the same hand, the high point of Alaska is 20,320 feet above sea level. In Geezer’s mind, two good reasons to find another obsession. The New York Times. which reports on the trend,  tells us that 10,000 people "are caught up in the hobby, which blends the rigors of adventure travel with the fastidiousness of stamp collecting." Tim Webb, president of the Highpointers’ Club and a surveyor from Double Springs, Ala., tells the newspaper that 173 members of his club have completed 50 states. Geezer is happy for them.
Readers who are unconcerned that this is the type of thing that appeals to them can check out Highpointers.org, and the Highpointers’ Foundation, and hope for the best. Mountain_peakssm
