Eating Plants + Reducing Stress = Longer Life, Maybe

OK, it’s a small study, a really small study, with just 30 people and a lead researcher who makes a fortune writing health and lifestyle books, but the results are still impressive. The BBC reports that Dean Cornish, from the Preventive Medicine Research Institute in California, asked 30 men, all with low-risk prostate cancers, to take part in a three-month trial of comprehensive lifestyle changes, including a diet high in fruit and vegetables,
supplements of vitamins and fish oils, an exercise regimen and classes
in stress management, relaxation techniques and breathing exercises. Cornish then measured telomerase activity, because low telomerase activity has been linked to increased risk for cancer cardiovascular disease. Among the 24 men who had sufficient data for analysis, blood levels of telomerase increased by 29 percent on average.
