Dynamic Stretching: the Kind that Works

This short video on the New York Times shows us Mark Kovacs, manager of sports science for the United States Tennis Association in Boca Raton, Florida, demonstrating several "dynamic stretches," meaning stretches that involve constant motion, rather than holding a position. What’s so great about dynamic stretching? Everything, says Kovacs. Dynamic stretching loosens joints and gets the heart beating and the body temperature rising, all good things for athletic competition. And  what about static stretching, the kind of stretching they taught when Geezer was in high school. It’s still good, says Kovacs, but for cooling down; not warming up.
