It’s true. The more research conducted on the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, the more reasons found to peruse ads for real estate on the Amalfi Coast. Now comes a study from the perhaps not unbiased Department of Medical and Surgical Critical Area at the Thrombosis Centre at the University of Florence, suggesting that people who eat a strict Mediterranean diet are at less risk of
developing heart disease, cancer, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
HealthDay reports researchers collected data on 1,574,299 people who
participated in 12 international studies of dietary habits and health, and followed the people from three to 18 years. Those who adhered strictly to a Mediterranean diet saw an overall drop in mortality
of 9 percent, a 9 percent drop in death from cardiovascular disease,
and a 13 percent reduction in cases of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s
disease, and a 6 percent drop in cancer.

  1. I’ve heard about the benefits of the diet for a long time, and I eat this way sometimes. I need to do it more often. I had a period in my life where I ate a Greek salad every day for lunch for, like, years!
