The Ups and Downs of Sports Bras

What’s the best kind of bra for minimizing the bouncing of breasts, a fact of physics that causes pain to 50 percent of women who work out?  Researchers at the University of Portsmouth in the UK believe the answer is "encapsulating bras," or those that cradle each breast separately.  Science Daily reports that Dr. Joanna Scurr spent two years tracking the bounce in the breasts of 70 women with bra sizes ranging
from A to JJ as they walked, jogged or ran. What did she find? First, when it comes to breast pain, size doesn’t matter. Women with small breasts experienced just as much discomfort as women with large breasts. Second, the speed at which a woman runs also doesn’t matter. For breasts at least, jogging can be just as painful as sprinting. In general, Science Daily reports, Scurr found that sports bras let women down.
