Strenuous exercise appears to decrease the likelihood that women will develop breast cancer, according to research conducted by Dr. Leslie Bernstein, professor of preventive medicine at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The research, reported for some reason in MensNewsDaily.com, looked at the exercise habits of more than 100,000 California teachers during their reproductive years. Bernstein found that those women who exercised on average five hours a
week or more had 20 percent reduction in risk of invasive breast
cancer, and a 30 percent reduction of risk in in-situ breast cancer, an early-stage tumor that predisposes women for future cancers. When Bernstein later looked at (exercise rates) over the women’s lifetime, she found that those who exercised on average about 4 hours per week over
their reproductive years had more than a 50 percent reduction in risk. Read more in MensNewsDaily.
