Performance Is Not About Lung Capacity, Stupid

A curious and asthmatic reader of Outside magazine wants to know how he can improve his lung capacity, and Outside fitness answer man Chris Carmichael has an answer, and a warning. There are a few things you can do, says Carmichael. You can blow up balloons or use an inspirometer, but before doing anything, consider this:  Simply increasing lung volume does not correlate with increased
aerobic performance. While you would be able to store more air in your lungs,
unless you increase the rate of oxygen transport within the lung
tissue, you would not actually increase performance, as you would not
deliver more oxygen to the working muscle faster.Read more at Outside online.
