Geezer is willing to believe that all men and women are created equal, but he also knows that the length of time we get to run around the planet is not even close to equal. Rich people live longer than poor people, white people live longer than black people, and yada yada yada. We’ve all heard all about it. But one contributing factor to a long life that many of us haven’t heard much about is education. Until now. The Times reports on research conducted by a RAND Corporation health economist and others that indicates that a few extra years of school is associated with extra years of life and vastly improved health decades later, in old age. One researcher, Dr. Lleras-Muney of Columbia University, found that life expectancy at age 35 was extended by as much as
one and a half years simply by going to school for one extra year. Read more about the relationship of years in school to years of living.
