"When it comes to designing a gym," the Washington Post posits, "it’s not all about attracting the
hard bodies anymore, and when it comes to senior fitness, there’s more
out there than water aerobics. As more of America’s baby boomers start
entering their 60s, more startup gyms are homing in on a more mature
market."
The piece gives us a glimpse of Nifty After Fifty, which plays softer music than the typical gym, and uses
smooth, air pressure-driven equipment for strength training. Also mentioned: Healthfit, a club based in Needham, Mass., and FitWright, in Dedham, Mass., which offers a special "gentle yoga" class
for its less limber members. The Post reports that even large chains like Bally Total Fitness
and Gold’s Gym are trying to sign up more baby
boomers through campaigns using older people in their advertising. Some
have paired up with SilverSneakers, a fitness program started in 1992
offered through health insurers to people with Medicare.

I’d thought I let you know anout a new and innovative approach to fitness specifically designed for people 50 years old and older about which you might want to feature an article. I am talking about Club 50 Fitness which is a fitness center totally dedicated to fitness and nutrition for both men and women 50 and older. Younger folks aren’t allowed in. Hence there is no intimidation or competition with them. There is no weight clanging and spandex crowd; just a great place for mature adults to have fun, socialize, and get in shape. The workout combines strength training, cardio, and stretching into a fun format that is set to music. The equipment is designed to be easy on the joints at the same time it strengthens them and everything is low impact. The person goes from station to station on cue getting the heart rate up to 70% to maximize the effects of the workout.
Club 50 Fitness is a Franchise which is only 5 years old. There is only one Club 50 in Illinois and it is located in Orland Park. There is no other Club like it and it is worth a look.
Thanks,
Gary and Nora Facko
