Geezer can’t claim that it’s never too late to clean up one’s act, but new research indicates that people in their 40s and 50’s can benefit enormously by adopting better diets and exercise routines. The Scientific American reports on the study, which found that middle-aged adults who began eating five or more fruits and
vegetables every day, exercising for at least 2 1/2 hours a
week, keeping weight down and not smoking decreased their risk
of heart disease by 35 percent and risk of death by 40 percent
in the four years after they started. Get the facts in the Scientific American.
I am living proof that middle age is not too late to get healthy. I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes in Feb. 2003 at the age of 46. It was a wake up call for me. I have been eating right and excercising ever since. I’ve lost over 70 lbs and have kept it off. Keeping it off, in my opinion, is the bigger challenge. My doctor discontinued all prescriptions within 3 months of my diagnosis (diet and excercise did the trick). I’ve never smoked, which is a huge benefit. I meet all 4 requirements and was very pleased to read that after 4 years I’m as healthy as lifelong devotees of a healthy lifestyle. Thanks for the good news.
