In the last few years, several credible studies have attempted to link antioxidants with the prevention of what is kindly called "cognitive decline." Some did link the two, some did not, and the beat goes on. Now comes a study from a researcher at the Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, showing that long term -15 years- use of beta carotene supplement appears to lessen the decline of thinking ability that attends Alzheimer’s disease. As the US News & World Report reports, the difference between those who had stayed in the trial for an average of 18 years scored

Beta-carotene while helpful for cognitive function has not shown benefit in heart disease and cancer and may even have harmful effects in certain populations.
