How Healthy Is Your State?

Geezer can understand why gentle readers may be confused: Three months ago, something called the Trust for America’s Health released its annual fat report, citing obesity statistics for all 50 states (Mississippi took that fat title; Colorado the lean.) Now comes the annual issuance of the United Health Foundation,  a not-for-profit appendage of the for-profit United Health Group, advising us which states are the healthiest, to be distinguished from the fattest. The foundation, which considers the rates of such things as cancer, cardio-vascular disease and obesity, puts Vermont at the top of this year’s list. Minnesota, Hawaii, New Hampshire, and Connecticut follow. Far, far away, at the opposite end of the health spectrum, recline Louisiana and Mississippi. Read the 2007 report here.
