Research suggests that women of a certain age may be able to beat the pain of arthritis with the a regular regimen at the gym. The Los Angeles Times reports that a recent study, conducted at the University of Queensland in Australia, looked at the arthritis pain and symptoms reported by more than 8,700 Australian women over a three-year period. The researchers found that women in their 70s who exercised 75 minutes a week reported fewer
symptoms of arthritis than those who did less, while more spry women
who were active at least 2 1/2 hours weekly had even less pain in the
three years that followed. The bad news, the Times reports, is that exercise had no effect on arthritis symptoms reported by middle-aged women. Read an abstract of the study in Arthritis Research & Therapy.
