Noni juice, as the LA Times puts it, "tastes like fermented death with strong undertones of stomach acid." A 32 ounce bottle costs $30. And people buy it, because noni juice, whose scientific name is Morinda citrifolia, is alleged to be "the most incredible natural health breakthrough of the century."
Is it really? The short answer, according to the Times, is "possibly, but not probably." A slightly longer answer is that noni juice does appear to be loaded with antioxidants, and does small amounts of
obscure, poorly understood compounds that seem to ease inflammation,
shrink tumors and boost the immune system  at least in mice. For humans, the Times reports, the benefits are still in question. For an still longer answer, read more in the LA Times.
