Connecticut AG Questions Enviga Calorie Claims

Dr. Rhona Applebaum, Coca-Cola’s chief
scientist, says that Coke’s new energy drink, Enviga,  "creates a negative calorie effect — in other
words, you burn more calories than you get from drinking it." Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal calls it "voodoo nutrition." Blumenthal wants the Coke and Nestle, the two companies that created he caffeinated sparkling green tea drink in a joint effort, to produce the scientific studies on which the calorie-burning claims are based.
The Scientific American reports that Beverage Partners Worldwide, the modest moniker that Coke and Nestle have chosen to represent their joint effort, said that a
recent study conducted by Switzerland’s University of Lausanne found that
consuming the equivalent of three cans of Enviga in one day
resulted in burning more calories.
