About Caffeine: the good, the bad, and the ugly

The L.A, Times offers a lengthy dissertation on why coffee is good for you, why coffee is not good for you, and why people are confused about whether coffee is good for you. Or not. It’s a good read, particularly if accompanied by a cup of joe.

  1. One thing about caffeine that is seldom mentioned is its diuretic effect. As a 65+ year old male with the typical urinary problems associated with males my urologist was pushing for drug therapy. Being a ornery contrarian and loathe to taking drugs needlessly I reduced my caffeine intake to less than half and after about 1 week i realized a dramatic improvement in the “going” problem. A perfect solution? No but an improvement none the less. The medical profession seeks remedies by adding conditions. I feel that before making additions it is wiser to first subtract as much as possible.
