When to Exercise: Morning or Evening?

It turns out that there is not a lot (any) academic research comparing the pros and cons of working out in the morning with those of working out in the evening, so to answer the question: which is better? Geezer resorts to common sense, and to the wisdon of the very sensible Jodi Hyde, who answers the Ask the Personal Trainer column on BlueSuitMom.com.
Hyde tells us that surveys show that morning exercisers are more likely to stick to the program, and she points out that exercise improves mental sharpness for several hours, increases energy, and may help control appetite–all good things to take with you as you head off to work.
Evening exercise, on the other hand, has its own set of advantages. Hyde tells us that it relieves some of the stress that may have accumulated over the course of the day, and that it tends to be optimal exercise, because muscles are warm and strength is at its peak. The downside of evening exercise, she warns, is that, in some cases, it may make it hard to fall asleep. Or not.
