Way More Than Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sleep and Health

Geezer is pleased to summarize the many thousands of words of medical-speak that await readers of the September 18 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine-dedicated entirely to issues of sleep and health. In four words: sleep is good for you.  A somewhat longer and more helpful translation of the Archives is offered by Susan Brink, writing in the L.A. Times. Brink tells us, for example, exactly how important sleep is,– at least as important as diet and exercise. Brink, who kindly describes American’s chronic lack of sleep as a ‘Lifestyle disorder," puts it all in perspective with this observation: "Short sleep can hasten the arrival of the inevitable long sleep."
