Inevitably, he is reminded by loved ones that a family cannot survive for twelve months on six basil plants and two dozen cherry tomatoes.

Apples, for antioxidants, including flavonoids and other polyphenols, and fiber.
Avocados, for monounsaturated fatty acids, which appear to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels.

Blueberries, for antioxidants, including anthocyanins and other polyphenols, and carotenoids.
Dark chocolate, for flavonoids.Kiwis, for vitamin C and potassium.

Oats, for protein, potassium, magnesium and other minerals.
Spinach, for lutein and many other carotenoids.
Walnuts, for healthy fats and micronutrients.
