Geezer would like to nominate Reuters’ surprising illustration of common injuries of World Cup players as the “most innovative” use of interactivity in the online presentation of the World Cup games. He would also like to ask “What kind of drugs make editors think that things like this are a good idea?” Reuters chose five foot and leg injuries (hamstring, ankle, achilles, anterior knee, MCL knee injury, and metatarsal) and linked each to a medical illustration showing the bones and muscles involved. Designers then put perhaps too much effort into the installation of tiny flashing lights, probably intended to depict the pain points of each injury, when it would have been more helpful to increase the type size to one that can be read by human eyes. Somewhat enlightening, somewhat bizarre, but definitely worth a click.
