On your wrist: GPS, Altimeter, Thermometer, Barometer, etc.

It’s getting harder to get lost in woods. The New York Times reports on the latest gadget to keep us safe from just about any directional or weather-related uncertainty. It’s a watch called the X9i, made by the Finnish company Suunto, and it sells for $500. The paper reports that inside its "highly engineered 2.7 ounces are a multitude of functions X9i_medium_1f6bf

compass, thermometer and barometer, all meant for people who want to
know not only their exact place in the world, but also the prospects of
any sudden change in the weather." For some hikers, notably those who spent years learning to read the stars and the weather,
the X9i may provide too much information. Others may read more about the X9i here.
