In the context of this post, Geezer regrets to report, SEAL test is not ice cream. It’s the physical challenge faced by anyone who hopes to join the elite Navy special warfare unit known as the SEALS, a group that, the Navy reminds us, "take their name from the elements in which and from which they operate," specifically the sea, the air, and land. Geezer can only wonder what other elements might be available as a base of operations. Fire? Plasma? Deep space?
In this short piece in the San Francisco Chronicle, 43-year-old ultra-marathon man Dean Karnazes is, naturally, unable to resist the SEAL challenge, and along with 55-year-old Chronicle writer Paul McHugh, puts his body to the test.
How does Karnazes do? Here’s a clue. He ran the Big Sur Marathon route twice the preceding weekend,
and planned to run the Miwok 100K trail run a day after the SEAL test. Read more and wonder why this guy doesn’t just give himself (and the rest of us) a little rest.
