You believe it, but researchers don’t–despite decades of study. We’re talking about the common conviction that damp weather makes arthritis worse. According to this piece in The Scientific American, scientists have yet to establish an objective relationship between arthritis severity and weather patterns. Moreover, the journal tells us, detailed interviews with patients have yielded mostly anecdotes, and those who move to drier climates do not report major relief. So what’s up? Why do so many people believe in something that appears to be untrue? One answer, Sciam says, is that the innate tendency to identify patterns and discount randomness has evolutionary benefits because predictability can often be turned to advantage, whereas randomness is hard to exploit. Why You Think Dampness Aggravates Arthritis, And Why You’re Wrong

What aggravates arthritis is cold conditions such getting a chill, or gardening in cool, damp weather or picking berries during a cold rain, working in the yard when the cool weather has set in, or swimming in a cool river…notice that cool and damp are both aggravating however, mix the two, and it’s worse. Fingers that get wet and cold become very stiff, sore and may swell up the next day and this pain can persist for days. And just a side note, I’ve heard complaints that BISON meat, more especially, causes arthritic joints to swell.
Is it any coincidence that when it rains my arthritic wrist hurts? I don’t think so. There is loads of information on ‘dampness and its affects on arthritis’, whether it be from damp weather or foods that cause dampness internally. Science has not proven the existence of God. Does that mean that God does not exist? Actually, I take that back. Scientific forward thinkers are ‘discovering’ the all pervading atom and the oneness of the universe which we call God. 🙂 So fortunately, all scientists are not still thinking from inside the box. Do your research and find out what causes damp conditions in the body, and avoid them if you can. Or, you could always move to Arizona!
