In the age of hyper-lightweight plastic and fiber kayaks, a dory is not the most fashionable craft in which to take on the rapids of the Colorado River as it passes through the Grand Canyon, but river guide Martin Litton is unimpressed with fashion. That may be because at 87-years-old, Litton has seen too much fashion come and go. This moving read in Outside Magazine takes us along on what may be the last trip for Litton, who is described as "a unique force of nature, a tornado of ungovernable passions, soaring eloquence, and stiff-necked defiance quite unlike anything else that’s ever blown through one of the most storied locales in American adventure." Definitely worth reading.
