The Not-Secret Secret to More Energy: Just Say No To Booze

Some of Geezer’s closest friends have taken the hard road to abstinence; others have opted for more attainable goals, such as not drinking during the week, or drinking a bit less on Wednesdays when there is a quarter moon. Geezer, who prefers to observe abstinence rather than become a member, admits that he has often taken note of the newfound energy of friends who just plain quit. Now the L.A Times jumps on the wagon, so to speak, with this piece about the curious paradox of serious health nuts who welcome all physical challenges except one: giving up booze. The piece leans heavily on anecdotal evidence, quoting active people who swear that a couple of drinks a night really flattens their energy level the next day. It also quotes Dr. Ernest Noble,  professor of psychiatry and director of the UCLA Alcohol
Research Center,  who says that "One, two or three drinks can affect cognitive abilities,
sleep and sexual functions"  three things that are close to Geezer’s heart. Interesting stuff. Read more about the benefits of not drinking, and the widespread resistence, among the healthiest people, to an apparently healthy practice.
