OK, they’re British. So we know the eccentricity factor is going to be a tad elevated, but is riding a tricycle really an exteme sport? Perhaps. According to this piece in the Sunday Times, "triking" is the summer thrill for snowboarders and skiers who have figured out that the lifts have closed for the season. Of course, a trikke (notice the dangerously German "kk") is no ordinary tricycle. It’s an aircraft-grade aluminum contraption with optional high-rise handlebars. The story also reports on another newly satisfying experience for English adrenalin junkies: adventure racing, described as a combination of mountain biking and trail running, with added “surprise†adventures. What might they be? Check out the websites of Adventure Challenge Endurace races or Rat Race Urban Adventure for clues. The piece warns that adventure racing is not for the faint-hearted and that racers are likely to be on the move for at least four hours, and burn about 3,000 calories. That’ll work.
