Skin Cancer: One More Thing Aspirin May Protect You From

Along with breast cancer, gastric cancer, Alzheimer’s, and heart attack, we can now add one more thing to the list of dreadful conditions that aspirin may save us from: skin cancer. ABC News reports on a study conducted by Australia’s Queensland Institute of Medical Research that found that people took aspirin regularly had lower incidences of some skin cancers. In this piece, researcher David Whiteman tells us that people who took regular doses of aspirin for five years or more appeared to reduce their chances of getting skin cancer by 60 percent. Impressed? The study also found that very high users of aspirin–those who took it more than once a day, appeared to have a 90 percent lower risk of developing squamous cell cancers of the skin. Geezer believes that’s particularly good advice for the stubborn gender, which has a harder time than the less stubborn gender remembering to apply sun block.
