Retracing Lewis and Clark in Kayaks

Originally, Craig Ligibel planned to kayak the entire 2,000 mile route that follows Lewis and Clark’s trail along the Missouri River, albeit Ligibel planned to travel west to east. Then a Montana-based river guide talked some sense into the writer, who settled on a 149-mile, nine-day excursion from Fort Benton to the Fred Robinson Bridge. It was a good choice: that stretch of river is designated a national wild and scenic river, and the landscape has hardly changed since the spring of 1805. Ligibel’s inspiring report of his trip, which he took last June, appears in the Los Angeles times.
