So far, the greatest danger to the new virtual-support-group-for-fitness website called PEERtrainer is that Geezer thinks it’s a really terrific idea. Geezer’s wife can recite a short list of other really terrific ideas that she has been persuaded to invest in, and that recitation hasn’t been funny for several years now. But this one looks good, honest. The New York Times, USA Today, and Online Media Daily have covered the site, whose central thesis is the matching of people with specific fitness goals with other people (in groups of four in the same geographic area) with similar goals. Membership is free, and PEERtrainer provides space for diet and exercise logs, advice, and of course, stuff to to buy. For glass-half-full people, PEERtrainer provides a caring, supportive environment that will help us achieve our personal goals. For glass-half-empty people, it’s a powerful guilt-trip that will crush us if we fail. Geezer sees a win-win. Check your paper for the IPO.
